The West Vancouver Police want to advise area residents of another fraud scam.
Individuals throughout the Lower Mainland are posing as canvassers for the Canadian Cancer Society and are using hand held portable Trojan terminals with a pretence of collecting money. They have also been using the portable Trojan terminals to sell Spa Utopia gift Certificates.
The Trojan terminals equipped with Bluetooth technology enable the alleged canvassers to acquire personal private data from your client card; they then emboss and use that information on a counterfeit card where they are now able to access funds in your bank account and/or charge up your credit cards.
If canvassers attend your residence ask them if they have a letter from The West Vancouver Bylaw Section authorizing them to conduct business in West Vancouver. If the canvassers do not have a letter from the Bylaw Section, they are not permitted to conduct business in West Vancouver.

The West Vancouver Police Department is expressing concern for the safety of a teen, missing since 5:00pm.
On Monday 2010 February 8th, at 5:00pm, the West Vancouver Police Department received information that 13 year-old Tatiana Taylor had run away in West Vancouver. A search involving a police team and dog unit has failed to locate Tatiana.
Concern is growing as Tatiana has ceased all contact through her cell phone.
Although she has been missing only a short time, Tatiana may be in harm’s way or may potentially cause harm to herself. She has only been in West Vancouver for two days after moving here from the United States.
The West Vancouver Police Department is asking residents of Ambleside and the British Properties to check their property for any sign of Tatiana.
She is described as a white female, 13 years, 4’11”, 95lbs, she has blonde hair with bangs and was wearing a grey hoodie and jeans.
Anybody who sees Tatiana is asked to contact the police at 911 and advise of her location.
Drivers are reminded that as of February 1, 2010, the one-month education and awareness period associated to British Columbia’s new Distracted Driving legislation has expired.
Police officers are now authorized to issue Provincial Violation tickets for offences relating to use of any handheld cellphone or electronic device while operating a motor vehicle in BC.
Fines are $167.
